Found a Stray?

What to do when you find a stray:

  • Call to determine availability for a microchip scanning of the animal. For a faster response time, contact us at

  • Please refer to the map provided to find your location’s dog control officer.

  • The SPCA contracts with the Town of LeRay for Dog Control and Fort Drum for Dog and Cat Control. Strays brought to us will be vaccinated and owners will be charged a housing and vaccination fee.

  • We accept all stray cats that pass a behavioral and medical examination. If we have reached housing capacity, we will place the stray on a waiting list and contact you when there is room.

  • We do not accept feral cats and will refer you to our TNR program as an alternative solution.

  • Check local Facebook Pages for Jefferson County / North Country lost and found pets

  • Make a social media post on your own page and share to help find the animal's owner

  • We do not investigate animal cruelty. You must call the Jefferson County Sheriffs @ 315-786-2601
