Found a Stray?

When you encounter a stray animal please remember that your safety should always come first. Please do not attempt to handle an animal  under unsafe circumstances. 

What to do when you find a stray dog:

 

  • Dog control services are jurisdictional. Meaning that only the officer contracted to that jurisdiction is able to take possession of a stray dog. 

  • Please refer to the map below to find your location’s dog control officer.

  • Strays brought to us will be vaccinated at the owners expense.

  • Check local Facebook Pages for Jefferson County / North Country lost and found pets

What to do when you find a stray cat:

 

  • There are no animal control services for cats

  • Stray cats may be brought in as space allows. Please call the main shelter at 315-782-3260 to check for availability. 

  • Strays brought to us will be vaccinated at the owners expense.

  • We do not accept feral cats and will refer you to our TNR program as an alternative solution.

  • Check local Facebook Pages for Jefferson County / North Country lost and found pets

  • Make a social media post on your own page and share to help find the animal's owner

We do not investigate animal cruelty.
