Found a Stray?
When you encounter a stray animal please remember that your safety should always come first. Please do not attempt to handle an animal under unsafe circumstances.
What to do when you find a stray dog:
- Dog control services are jurisdictional. Meaning that only the officer contracted to that jurisdiction is able to take possession of a stray dog.
- Please refer to the map below to find your location’s dog control officer.
- Strays brought to us will be vaccinated at the owners expense.
- Check local Facebook Pages for Jefferson County / North Country lost and found pets
What to do when you find a stray cat:
- There are no animal control services for cats
- Stray cats may be brought in as space allows. Please call the main shelter at 315-782-3260 to check for availability.
- Strays brought to us will be vaccinated at the owners expense.
- We do not accept feral cats and will refer you to our TNR program as an alternative solution.
- Check local Facebook Pages for Jefferson County / North Country lost and found pets
- Make a social media post on your own page and share to help find the animal’s owner
