OUR MISSION

To provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals by offering a dedicated adoption, foster and medical program throughout the Region of Northern New York.

HISTORY

The Jefferson County S.P.C.A. is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1891 to help protect and care for domestic animals in Jefferson County. We are a No-Kill facility serving multiple counties. Our shelter is one of the earliest to adopt the spay/neuter before adoption program in Jefferson County. As a non-profit organization, we exist on the donations that we receive from the generous public, as well as from our varied fundraising events.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

The Jefferson County SPCA provides numerous benefits to our Jefferson County community. Our facility works with the community to match pets with loving homes through our adoption services while also providing veterinary services at a reduced price. The SPCA humanely addresses the issues of animal control by offering spaying and neutering services, which include the Trap, Neuter and Release program (TNR) that focuses on reducing the overpopulation of feral cats in county; the Spay, Neuter Your Pet Program (SNYP) which offers services to income eligible families and their pets;  and microchipping, which is key to tracking and identifying stray animals.

COMMUNITY

The Jefferson County SPCA maintains a firm commitment to educating the local community on the matters of pet care, animal safety, immunizations and disease control. Combined, our services improve tourism by reducing the number of unsightly or dangerous strays wandering the streets. In addition, the Jefferson County SPCA helps to improve the mental health of residents by providing the community an opportunity to unite with a loving animal companion while meeting our mission to reduce the number of neglected and abused animals by providing education for all pet owners.
